The recent Ramzan Relief Package 2024 introduced by the Government of Pakistan, unfortunately, excludes three essential items from discounted prices at utility stores. Despite the Ramzan Rashan package announcement, sugar, flour, and ghee prices will remain unchanged.
No Discount On Sugar, Flour, and Ghee in Ramzan:
The price of a 10 kg bag of flour stands at Rs648, while sugar will be priced at Rs109 per kg for Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) beneficiaries. Ghee, under the Ramzan relief package, will maintain its price at Rs365 per kg.
Utility store management has cited the already low prices for BISP beneficiaries as the reason behind their refusal to reduce prices further for sugar, flour, and ghee.
The implementation of the Ramadan relief package has been rescheduled to March 5, shifting from the initial date of March 4 as approved by the Caretaker Cabinet.
Earlier, on February 22, the federal cabinet sanctioned the Ramzan Relief Package 2024, amounting to 7.49 billion rupees.
During the cabinet meeting chaired by former Prime Minister Kakar, decisions endorsed by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) meeting were reiterated.
The ECC greenlit the proposed subsidy of Rs7,492.75 million for the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) target beneficiaries under the Ramzan Relief Package 2024, which is accounted for in the 2023-24 budget.
